Movies...are they just a form of entertainment?
Movies
are a common means of entertainment. For me, instead of chocolates or those
other things girls crave for you can give me nice movies, I even prefer it to
food(sometimes).
Movies are known to help people relax, laugh etc. I actually use
movies
to motivate myself to read especially on days that the vibe is not there, I
tell myself if you read all your courses today then I’ll allow you to watch
movies through out the night, this promise alone makes me so happy and motivated.
I don’t know if it works for only me. But the big question is, is there more to
these movies, are they teaching something, changing our opinion about
something, bringing to light a particular issue and have I been able to
identify and understand the message, they are trying to pass across?
My
friend and I watched a particular south Korean movie “parasite” and we had
several valid opinions about the movie. To my friend the movie simply did not
make sense at the end of the movie and cannot be qualified an
interesting and good movie
while for me the movie exposed a lot of things that happen between the social
strata and that alone qualifies it as an interesting movie. It teaches valuable
lessons like, envy can make us blind, greed is destructive, money does not make
you immune to misery, new employees should be well investigated (you can never
be too careful).
Grown-ish,
another series that is practically annoying me because of Zoe leaving school
due to her new found job. This series, in each episode talks about what the
university students experience in America, from love, drugs, partying, student loans, fighting for minority rights, handling
passion and studies to
pregnancy etc. All these are important topics for discussion among youths that
would help in redefining culture.
Another
Nigerian movie that is one of my favourites is chief daddy, one of the most
important things that happened was the way the family members of chief were
more concerned about the will than mourning the man’s death. It led me to ask why
Africans fight about the will of a rich family member, from ages we hear
stories of how the sharing of a dead persons property from land, houses, cars
etc led to them killing each other. Does it mean the relatives cannot build
wealth for themselves or is just greed? and what can we do to change this culture.
Think about it.
In
conclusion, have you been getting the real message from each movie?
I would be very grateful if you drop a list of interesting
movies to you, I’m done watching the ones I downloaded. Thanks for reading, stay blessed
and have a blessed day.
